A MAN suspected to have committed rape in 2003 today had his remand extended by another three days till Thursday.

Kerian district police chief Mazuki Mat said the Parit Buntar magistrates’ court issued the order today to enable police to continue its investigations.

It was reported that the 40-year-old suspect had previously been remanded for four days from June 10 until today, to assist in investigations under section 376 of the penal code.

The suspect had been on the run for 19 years prior to his arrest.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan was reported to have said the man was arrested at 9.30pm around Bagan Serai, Perak, on Thursday.

According to him, based on matching DNA profile data, police managed to solve a rape case that occurred in 2003 with the 40-year-old’s arrest. – Bernama, June 13, 2022.
